Our own Sharon Shannon’s brother-in-law, Christopher Shannon, is assistant professor of history at Christendom College. He is a frequent guest on the Mars Hill Audio Journal. The most recent issue (no 85) has an interview with him, discussing “how social scientists encouraged the rise of autonomous individualism in 20th-century America” (which is the topic of his book Conspicuous Criticism). Fascinating discussion, well worth listening to (as is, of course, most anything on the MHA Journals).

If having a ‘new’ Tolkien book (Children of Hurin) recently wasn’t enough, volume 4 (2007 edition) of Tolkien Studies has just come out. Luckily, I can read it online through the university I work for. The less privileged will have to shell out $60 for it. But if you’re at all interested in Tolkien scholarship, this journal is a must read.
Redefining “Christian” music
Nashville, Tenn., May 1, 2007—CCM Magazine, Christian music’s preeminent publication, is changing its definition of “Christian music†with its May 2007 issue to raise the profile of independent and general market artists of faith.
