Sharon Shannon

As X-Real’s solitary, charter representative of the Baby Boom, I find it both challenging and stimulating to have my work critiqued by people I literally could have attended to in my church nursery. This goads me into refreshing my writing, reaching for the goal of communication through the spirit.

Personal stuff: Married since 1975, my DH Patrick and I have a grown son and teenaged daughter. We live near Monterey, California in the agricultural center of the country; I grew up in the mountains of West Virginia and have lived all over the U.S. We also spent four years during the 80’s doing missionary work in Brazil, and now serve our home church fellowship in various capacities. My interests are wide: writing and reading constantly; the Internet; historical reenactment (mostly Highland Games); anything and everything Celtic (which I liked before it was trendy), especially music. Though a member of the original TV generation, I’ve been a book lover all my life and enjoy many different styles and genres. My favorite modern authors include C.S. Lewis, Diana Gabaldon, Susan Howatch, and Frederick Buechner.

As to my writing, I’ve done a great deal of poetry over the years, and a bit of prose; and have been published in several independent journals and collections. A number of my poems have been put to music by worship teams and used for corporate worship, which pleases me greatly. Of course, like any good writer, I have my NIPs (novels in progress)–I only hope to live long enough to complete them. In the meantime, however, I savor the experience. The journey is, as the sages say, everything.
